Mel Melton & the Wicked Mojo's CD - Re-Launch Party Papa Mojo's Roadhouse, 5410-y Hwy 55, Durham N.C., 27713 Saturday, August 28th Food & Music out on the Patio 7:30-9:30 Band & Dancing 9:30-1am Open to the Public-Cover charge $10
The last CD by Mel Melton & the Wicked Mojos was released on the New Orleans based label, Louisiana Red Hot Records, on Monday, September 1, 2005, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The CD was noted as the last to be released from New Orleans as Katrina hit. The immediate result was the label being forced to refugee status in Austin, TX for several months, and a long recovery period thereafter, that continues to the present. Although the CD got highly favorable reviews, it had no commercial opportunity, and 2500 copies of the CD were discovered in a warehouse in New Orleans last year.
Big Round Records, a subsidiary of Parma Records, became aware of the situation, and have now prepared the CD for a commercial re-launch; with fresh production, DVD content, recipe files from Mel's restaurant, Papa Mojo's Roadhouse, and an interactive video file with interviews, cooking segments, and live performances.
On Saturday, August 28, there will be a party at the Roadhouse to celebrate the release, with a performance by the band, and exciting food and drink specials. Papa Mojo's, Big House Records, and Mel Melton & the Wicked Mojo's, along with The St Joseph's Historic Foundation, will be working hand in to donate proceeds of the event to the American Red Cross.
Additionally, as a result of the current gulf oil spill tragedy, the event will also include fund raising efforts through the Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board and Louisiana based brewery, Abita Beer, who has established SOS (Save our Shores) .100% of the funds raised though this charity will be used for the rescue and restoration of the environment, individuals and industry to survive this disaster.
The centerpiece of the charity is a new Abita beer, SOS, and it will generate 75cents for every bottle sold. Harris Distributors, of Durham, will be on hand to help with sale of the beer, and to offer merchandise (hats, tee shirt, lapel pin, and car magnet) 100% of these net proceeds will also go to SOS. You can read more about this cause at http://sos.abita.com/#load. Please make plans to attend this unique party to celebrate and help with sustaining the vital culture of South Louisiana and the Gulf Coast.
